Leonardo García Alarcón

Nach seinem Klavierstudium in Argentinien zog Leonardo García Alarcón 1997 nach Europa und wurde Mitglied des Genfer Konservatoriums. Im Jahr 2005 gründete er sein Ensemble Cappella Mediterranea, um die italienische, spanische und südamerikanische Barockmusik in den Fokus zu nehmen, ein Repertoire, das seitdem erheblich erweitert wurde. Jüngste Werke waren Claudio Monteverdis »L'Orfeo« in der Inszenierung von Sasha Waltz an der Staatsoper Berlin, »Les Indes Galantes« zum 350-jährigen Jubiläum der Pariser Oper und eine Neuproduktion von Jean-Baptiste Lullys berühmtem »Atys«, in Genf und Versailles. Er ist regelmäßiger Gast des kannadischen Kammerorchesters Les Violons du Roy, des Philharmonischen Orchesters von Radio France und des Lissaboner Gulbenkian-Orchesters. Bei den Forum Opéra Awards 2019 wurde er als bester Dirigent ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 2020 übernahm er die Leitung von La Cité Bleue, einem Aufführungssaal in Genf mit mehr als 300 Plätzen, der 2024 wiedereröffnet wird.

After studying piano in Argentina, Leonardo García Alarcón moved to Europe in 1997 and became a member of the Geneva Conservatory. In 2005, he founded his ensemble Cappella Mediterranea to focus on Italian, Spanish and South American Baroque music, a repertoire that has since expanded considerably. Recent works include Monteverdi's »L'Orfeo« in a production by Sasha Waltz at the Staatsoper Berlin, »Les Indes Galantes« for the 350th anniversary of the Paris Opera and a new production of Lully's famous »Atys« in Geneva and Versailles. He is a regular guest of Les Violons du Roy in Canada, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France and the Gulbenkian Orchestra. He was honoured as best conductor at the 2019 Forum Opéra Awards. In 2020, he took over the direction of La Cité Bleue, a performance hall with more than 300 seats in Geneva, which will reopen in 2024.
