Sven Marquardt

Der gebürtige Ostberliner Sven Marquardt ist das wohl berühmteste Gesicht der Berliner Clubszene. Der Autor und Fotograf war ab Mitte der 1980er Jahre maßgeblich an der Entstehung der Punk-, New-Wave- und Künstlerszene im Stadtteil Prenzlauer Berg beteiligt. Ende der 90er-Jahre begann er als Türsteher im legendären Club Ostgut zu arbeiten und wurde seither zu einer Ikone des Nachtlebens – und zum so emphatischen wie genauen Beobachter und Biograph der Szene.

Seit 2015 zeigte Sven Marquardt seine fotografischen Arbeiten in verschiedenen Ausstellungen, unter anderem in Berlin, Belgrad, Sydney, New York City, Istanbul oder Montreal, folgte zahlreichen Einladungen des Deutschen Goethe-Instituts und arbeitet für Magazine wie i-D, Interview, Numéro Berlin, SLEEK, Der Spiegel, Vogue und ZOO sowie für Modelabels wie Hugo Boss, Levi’s, ITEM m6, Baldessarini, Liebeskind, Adidas, G-Star und 44 LABEL GROUP. Seit 2015 unterrichtet er als Dozent an der Ostkreuz School of Photography und seit 2019 als Gastdozent am Polimoda, International Institute for Fashion Design and Marketing, in Florenz. Seit einigen Jahren werden Marquardts analoge Bildwelten in Zusammenarbeit mit jungen Visual-Artists neuzeitlich interpretiert aufgearbeitet.

Born in East Berlin, Sven Marquardt is arguably the most famous face of Berlin's club scene. From the mid-1980s onwards, the author and photographer played a key role in the emergence of the punk, new wave, and artist scene in the Prenzlauer Berg district. At the end of the 1990s, he began working as a bouncer at the legendary Ostgut club and has since become an icon of nightlife—and an emphatic and accurate observer and biographer of the scene.

Since 2015, Sven Marquardt has shown his photographic work in various exhibitions, including in Berlin, Belgrade, Sydney, New York City, Istanbul, and Montreal, accepted numerous invitations from the German Goethe Institute, and worked for magazines such as i-D, Interview, Numéro Berlin, SLEEK, Der Spiegel, Vogue, and ZOO, as well as for fashion labels such as Hugo Boss, Levi’s, ITEM m6, Baldessarini, Liebeskind, Adidas, G-Star, and 44 LABEL GROUP. Since 2015, he has been teaching at the Ostkreuz School of Photography and, since 2019, as a guest lecturer at Polimoda, International Institute for Fashion Design and Marketing, in Florence. For several years now, Marquardt's analog imagery has been reinterpreted and reworked in collaboration with young visual artists.
