Yukiko Yoshimoto

Die japanische Bühnenlichtdesignerin Yukiko Yoshimoto arbeitet seit 1996 in Theater- und Tanzproduktionen und gestaltet Lichtlandschaften, die das Erlebnis von Live-Performances prägen und verwandeln. 2005 wurde sie mit dem Kyoto City Special Encouragement Fellowship für Kunst und Kultur ausgezeichnet. Im darauffolgenden Jahr absolvierte sie eine Ausbildung am Théâtre de la Ville in Paris im Rahmen des Auslandsstudienprogramms für Nachwuchskünstler der Agentur für kulturelle Angelegenheiten. 2017 erhielt sie den Hauptpreis in der Bühnenkategorie bei den 36. Japan Illuminators’ Association Awards für ihr Lichtdesign zu Ishinhas »Amahara«.

Zu ihren jüngsten Kooperationen zählen Dumb Types »2020« im ROHM Theatre Kyoto, »TIME« von Ryuichi Sakamoto und Shiro Takatani beim Holland Festival 2021, »Planet [wanderer]« von Damien Jalet und Kohei Nawa am Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse sowie Mozarts Oper »Idomeneo« beim Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. 2023 entwarf sie die Beleuchtung für »Evangelion Beyond« von Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui und 2024 für Shiro Taktanis »Tangent«.

Japanese stage lighting designer Yukiko Yoshimoto has been working in theatre and dance productions since 1996, creating lighting landscapes that shape and transform the experience of live performance. In 2005, she was awarded the Kyoto City Special Encouragement Fellowship for Arts and Culture. The following year, she trained at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Overseas Study Program for Emerging Artists. In 2017, she received the Grand Prize in the Stage Division at the 36th Japan Illuminators’ Association Awards for her lighting design for Ishinha’s »Amahara«.

Her recent collaborations include Dumb Type’s »2020« at ROHM Theatre Kyoto, »TIME« by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shiro Takatani at the Holland Festival in 2021, »Planet [wanderer]« by Damien Jalet and Kohei Nawa at Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse, and Mozart’s opera »Idomeneo« at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
