Jess Dandy

Die aus Cumbria stammende Jess Dandy gilt weithin als die führende britische Altistin ihrer Generation. Sie studierte am Trinity College in Cambridge und absolvierte ihre Ausbildung an der Guildhall School of Music & Drama, an der sie inzwischen Fellow ist.

In der Saison 2025/26 gibt Jess Dandy ihr Hausdebüt an der Bayerischen Staatsoper als Lady Toodle in »Die englische Katze« und im Sommer beim Grange Festival. Zu den jüngsten Höhepunkten zählen ihre Rückkehr zu den BBC Proms mit Strawinskys »Requiem Canticles« sowie ihr Auftritt beim Oxford International Song Festival gemeinsam mit Keval Shah mit dem Programm »Eternity in an Hour«.

Im Jahr 2021 wurde sie für einen Royal Philharmonic Society Award in der Kategorie »Young Artist« nominiert. Sie ist Mitbegründerin von SongPath, einer Initiative für mentale Gesundheit, die musikalische Spazierwege in der Natur gestaltet. Gemeinsam mit dem Komponisten Alex Mills rief sie das Music & Being Collective ins Leben, ein interdisziplinäres Labor zur Erforschung von Musik und Selbstwahrnehmung.

Jess Dandy gibt ihr Debüt bei den Salzburger Osterfestspielen 2026 als Floßhilde in »Das Rheingold«.

Cumbrian-born Jess Dandy is widely regarded as the foremost British contralto of her generation. She studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, and trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she is now a Fellow.

In the 2025/26 season, she makes house debuts at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Lady Toodle in »Die Englische Katze«, and later in the summer at The Grange Festival. Recent highlights include her return to the BBC Proms for Stravinsky’s »Requiem Canticles« and the Oxford International Song Festival with Keval Shah for the programme »Eternity in an Hour«.

In 2021, she was shortlisted for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award in the category of Young Artist. She is the co-founder of SongPath, a mental health initiative creating musical walking trails in nature for better mental health. With composer Alex Mills, she developed the Music & Being Collective, an open laboratory space exploring music and our sense of self through interdisciplinary dialogue.

Jess Dandy makes her debut at the 2026 Salzburg Easter Festival as Floßhilde in »Das Rheingold«.
