Cast change Venus in »Tannhäuser«: Emma Bell takes over from Elīna Garanča

Elīna Garanča is very sorry not to be able to sing Venus in Richard Wagner's»Tannhäuser« due to illness. The Easter Festival is grateful for the British soprano Emma Bell stepping in at short notice to sing the part in the rather rarely performed »Viennese version«.

Emma Bell

Emma Bell studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and was a member of the opera studio of the National Opera in London.
A wide and varied early career has taken soprano Emma Bell i.a. to Teatro alla Scala as Donna Elvira and to the Metropolitan Opera as Contessa Almaviva. She has more recently established herself in the jugendlich-dramatisch repertoire, making house debuts at Bayerische Staatsoper as Eva, at Deutsche Oper Berlin as both Elisabeth and Venus, at Opernhaus Zürich as Leonore and at Staatsoper Hamburg as Elsa. As an engaging concert performer, Emma Bell has collaborated on works such as Straussʼs »Vier letzte Lieder«, Rossini’s »Stabat Mater« and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis.
This season she will make her role debut as the Foreign Princess in »Rusalka« at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, performs the world premiere of Brett Dean’s »In spe contra spem« with London Philharmonic Orchestra and sings Elisabeth in semi-staged concert with Deutsche Oper Berlin at the Edinburgh International Festival. Emma Bell makes her debut as Venus at the Salzburg Easter Festival.
