Moritz Huemer

Schon als Fünfjähriger nahm Moritz Huemer Cellounterricht bei Josef Hofer an der Liechtensteinischen Musikschule. Von 2015 bis 2018 war er an der Musik-Akademie Basel, parallel zum Gymnasium in Feldkirch, wo er 2018 sein Abitur machte.

Früh sammelte er Erfahrungen in verschiedenen Jugendorchestern, unter anderem im Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra und im Schweizer Jugendorchester. Sein Bachelorstudium absolvierte er bei Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt in Weimar, den Master bei Jens Peter Maintz an der Universität der Künste Berlin. Wichtige Impulse erhielt er auch in Meisterkursen bei Thomas Grossenbacher und David Geringas. Von 2022 bis 2024 war Moritz Huemer Stipendiat der Karajan-Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker, wo ihn Olaf Maninger unterrichtete. Seine erste Stelle führte ihn als stellvertretender Solocellist an die Komische Oper Berlin, ehe er im Mai 2025 zur Cellogruppe der Berliner Philharmoniker wechselte – und damit auch zu den 12 Cellisten.

As a five-year-old, Moritz Huemer took cello lessons with Josef Hofer at the Liechtenstein Music School. From 2015 to 2018, while he was still at secondary school in Feldkirch, he was a junior student at the Basel Music Academy, graduating in 2018.

He gained experience in various youth orchestras, including the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra and the Swiss Youth Orchestra. He completed his bachelor’s degree with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt in Weimar and his master’s degree with Jens Peter Maintz at the Berlin University of the Arts. He also took masterclasses with Thomas Grossenbacher and David Geringas. From 2022 to 2024, he was a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, where he was taught by Olaf Maninger. His first position was as deputy principal cellist at the Komische Oper Berlin. He went on to join the cello section of the Berliner Philharmoniker in May 2025 – and thus also the 12 cellists.
