Stephan Koncz

Stephan Koncz begann als Achtjähriger sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien. Im Jahr 2000 wechselte er an das Wiener Konservatorium und nahm ab 2002 zusätzlich Kompositions- und Dirigierstudien an der Universität Wien auf. Wichtige künstlerische Impulse erhielt er durch Meisterkurse bei Daniel Barenboim, Steven Isserlis und Heinrich Schiff sowie durch kammermusikalische Zusammenarbeit mit Julian Rachlin.

2006 wurde er Stipendiat der Karajan-Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker. Als Preisträger mehrerer nationaler und internationaler Wettbewerbe trat er als Solist und Kammermusiker unter anderem im Wiener Musikverein und Konzerthaus sowie in der Berliner Philharmonie auf. Mit Beginn der Spielzeit 2010/2011 wurde Stephan Koncz, der zuvor zwei Jahre Mitglied im Orchester der Wiener Staatsoper war, in die Cellogruppe der Berliner Philharmoniker aufgenommen. Der Cellist ist zudem Ensemblemitglied der 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker und von Made in Berlin.

Stephan Koncz began his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna at the age of eight. In 2000 he transferred to the Vienna Conservatory, and from 2002 he also pursued studies in composition and conducting at the University of Vienna. He received important artistic impulses through masterclasses with Daniel Barenboim, Steven Isserlis and Heinrich Schiff as well as through chamber music collaborations with Julian Rachlin.

In 2006 he became a scholarship holder of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. A prizewinner of several national and international competitions, he has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at venues including the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus as well as the Philharmonie Berlin. After being a member of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra for two years, Stephan Koncz joined the cello section of the Berliner Philharmoniker at the beginning of the 2010/2011 season. He is also an ensemble member of The 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker and Made in Berlin.
